Skin allergies are becoming quite common in babies, and all babies have sensitive skin. Your baby’s skin is very delicate. Babies’ skin loses moisture faster than adult skin, making it more vulnerable to dryness. It is three times thinner, making it more susceptible to harmful irritants and bacteria that can lead to infection and possible long-term ailments. It is also very porous and absorbs chemicals more easily. So it’s important to ensure that whatever touches your baby’s sensitive skin is organic and hypoallergenic. Specifically your baby clothes should be organic and allergy-free.

Baby clothes should be made of 100% organic cotton. Organic cotton baby clothes allow moisture to evaporate away from your baby’s sensitive skin, whereas synthetic clothes are not breathable. This means they can trap moisture and cause irritation. Synthetic clothing is made from various chemically produced fibers with added chemical dyes, formaldehyde resins, perfumes, and other chemical treatments.

The reason why it’s so important for your baby clothes to be organic is because conventional cotton crops are heavily sprayed with pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides. Conventional cotton fabrics are usually bleached, dyed and treated with softeners, formaldehyde, fire retardants, wrinkle and soil guard chemicals. These can all be harmful to a small developing baby. Even clothing advertised as 100% organic can contain dyes, bleaches and resins so be careful to thoroughly check into how the organic fabrics are processed. You want your baby clothing to be as pure as possible.

The rate of children experiencing a wide barrage of health problems such as rashes, allergies, respiratory problems, and difficulties focusing mentally due to chemical sensitivities has been growing alarmingly. Many children diagnosed with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities find organic clothing to be essential in reducing their exposure to the vast array of toxic chemicals that we are unknowingly exposed to every day.
Choosing Ana baby bibs made with 100% organic cotton will limit your baby's exposure to toxic substances.
At Ana baby's Our aim is to help improve the lives of millions of people and make a real difference to the global environment.

HOW TO CARE  YOUR ORGANIC BIBS

How do I wash organic cotton?

Don't worry about shrinkage. Order your correct size- there is no need to "buy big!"
That being said, do not overheat your garments. Drying with high heat can cause more than 4% shrinkage. Be very careful how you dry organic cotton apparel.

Conventional cotton apparel is generally treated with chemicals to reduce the shrinkage effects of heat. Organic cotton is not treated, so in high heat it is possible for the cotton to shrink more than 10%. Shrinkage is worse for the lengths of the garments and is less noticeable for widths.

Suggestion: Hang to dry. If using dryer, use Air cycle, no heat.

Will the colours fade?
Eco-friendly dyes are just as long lasting as the harmful dyes used on conventional products. They will fade if powerful detergents or bleaching agents are used.
Because we do not use chemical color fixatives, please do not mix dark colors with light ones for the first few washes due to dye bleed. For the first wash, add ¼ cup of vinegar to the final rinse, this will help to set the color and resist fading or bleeding.
Tip! - when washing prints, be sure to turn them inside out during the first few washes. This will help lock in the colour for years.

How durable is organic cotton?
Organic cotton is not exposed to the weakening, harsh chemicals that commercially grown cotton is, therefore organic cotton will last many years, with proper care.

Can I use bleach?
Do not use chlorine bleach on the natural color cotton products. This bleach will fade the cotton from its natural color and weaken the garment's fiber strength.
Why shouldn't I use Powerful detergent?
Tide and other powerful detergents are full of abrasive chemicals that are hard on delicate inks and dyes, not to mention the environment and you. Even having residual Tide from a previous washing in your machine can adversely affect the condition of your item. If you regularly use Tide or similar detergents, please rinse your machine before washing your organic cotton products with Woolite or a similarly mild detergent.
